National Institute on Aging Alzheimer’s Disease Family-Based Study (NIA-AD FBS)

NIA-AD FBS began recruiting families with multiple cases of late-onset Alzheimer's disease for genetic research in 2003. It has since grown into the largest collection of longitudinally assessed multiplex AD families worldwide, with more than 1,600 families of different ancestries represented. The ADSP Follow-Up Study heavily engages resources provided by NIA-AD FBS and depends upon the longitudinal follow-up of multigenerational families and recruitment of additional families, in particular those from diverse populations. In addition to providing DNA for genetic studies, NIA-AD FBS collects biospecimens for stem cell modeling, metabolomics, proteomics, and biomarker research, as well as brain autopsy materials.
